Nothing happens when I press the button
Work through these in order. One of the first three fixes it almost every time.
1. It is locked. Most 510 batteries, including this one, lock with five rapid clicks and unlock the same way. This exists so the battery does not fire in a pocket, and it catches out most new owners. Five quick clicks, then try again.
2. It is flat. Put it on charge for twenty minutes before concluding anything else.
3. The cartridge is screwed on too tight. This is the big one. Over-tightening pushes the battery's centre pin down so it cannot make contact. Loosen the cart a quarter-turn and try again. Finger-tight is all you ever need.
4. The centre pin is dirty. Residue from a leaking cart insulates the contact. A cotton bud with a little isopropyl alcohol on the centre pin, let it dry, reattach.
5. The cartridge coil has failed. Test with a different cart if you have one. If another cart fires, the battery is fine and the first cart is the problem.
The light blinks and it will not fire
Blinking is a fault signal, and it usually means one of three things:
- Empty battery — charge it.
- Short circuit — nearly always an over-tightened cartridge. Loosen a quarter-turn.
- Failed coil in the cartridge — the battery is protecting itself. Try another cart to confirm.
A blinking light is very rarely a dead battery. Check the first two before buying a replacement.
It fires but there is no vapour
The oil has not reached the coil. This is normal on a first pull, on a cold morning, or with thick live resin.
Run the preheat function, then draw gently. If you have no preheat available, warm the cartridge in your hand for a minute or two. Then step the voltage up one level and take a short, slow draw.
If it still gives nothing, hold the cart up to a light — it may simply be empty. Oil clinging to the sides can make a finished cart look fuller than it is.
It tastes burnt
The voltage is too high. This is the most common and most expensive mistake, because a genuinely scorched coil never recovers — the cart is damaged from that point on.
Drop a voltage setting immediately. Take shorter draws, two to three seconds. Pause several seconds between pulls so the wick can re-saturate. Chain-pulling on a high setting is what burns coils.
If it tastes burnt even on the lowest setting, the coil is already gone and no setting will fix it.
It is gurgling, or there is oil in my mouth
The coil is flooded. Two usual causes: drawing too hard on a cold cart, or over-tightening it so oil is forced past the seal.
Unscrew the cartridge, dab the base and the battery's contact dry with tissue, then stand the cart upright — mouthpiece up — for ten minutes. Reattach finger-tight. Draw gently rather than hard.
The cartridge is leaking
- Do not over-tighten. Counter-intuitive, but forcing it past snug is what breaks the seal.
- Store it upright, mouthpiece up. On its side, oil pools against the seal.
- Keep it out of the heat. A parked car in Nairobi sun thins the oil until it seeps. This is the single biggest cause of leaks here.
- Unscrew the cart for long journeys. Pressure changes and vibration both push oil out.
The draw feels blocked
A partial clog in the airway, usually from oil that has cooled and thickened. Run a preheat cycle, then take a gentle pull — hard pulls on a clog flood the coil instead of clearing it. You can also warm the cart in your hand first. Do not poke anything into the mouthpiece.
When it genuinely is the battery
Three signs the cell itself is finished, not just dirty:
- It will not hold a charge — full to flat within an hour or two of light use, consistently, after cleaning the pin.
- It reaches "full" within minutes of being put on charge.
- Any swelling, heat while idle, or casing damage. Stop using it and dispose of it properly rather than in household waste.
Frequently asked questions
Why won't my 510 battery fire?
Five rapid clicks to unlock, check the charge, then loosen the cartridge a quarter-turn. That fixes the vast majority.
What does a blinking light mean?
Flat battery, a short from an over-tightened cart, or a failed coil in the cartridge. Rarely a dead battery.
Why does my cart taste burnt?
Voltage too high, draws too long, or no pause between pulls. Drop a setting and shorten the draws — and act fast, because a scorched coil does not recover.
Why is my cartridge leaking?
Over-tightening, storing it on its side, or heat. Finger-tight, upright, out of the car.
How do I clean the connection?
Cotton bud with a little isopropyl alcohol on the centre pin. Let it dry before reattaching.
Does it come with a cartridge?
No — battery only. Pair it with a cart from Exotic Carts or Vapes & Carts.
Which colour should I get?
Same battery in five finishes — Pink, plus Black, White, Blue and Purple.
Do you deliver outside Nairobi?
Yes. Same-day across Nairobi on orders before 6pm, countrywide shipping everywhere else in Kenya.
